Beginning with the class of 2027, all Arkansas high school students will be required to earn at least 75 hours of documented, approved community service volunteer hours to earn a diploma.
Recently, the Barnes Mountain Fire Department invited Ozark students to join their junior firefighter program. This program allows students to earn 25 hours of community service through their department. The junior firefighters will attend lecture classes in the basics of firefighting, first aid/CPR and search/rescue. Some coursework is offered through the Arkansas Fire Training Academy and can be taken for credit toward becoming a firefighter after graduation. They will also learn the business side of the fire department. by attending monthly meetings.
Four of our students attended their first meeting recently. Pictured are Rachael Moffit, Kayla Gunter. Erica Jones and Steven Bowles.
To date, the class of 2027 has completed a total of 3,440 community service hours. This is an economic value of $112,778 to our community. HPRD!!

Congratulations to OHS senior, Olivia Hays! Her forged metal sculpture, "Spoon," was accepted into the 6th Annual Arkansas High School Art Competition at Historic Cane Hill. This is was a juried exhibition. Over 100 students applied and only less than 30% were accepted. We are so proud of Olivia for having the initiative and courage to put her work out there for public viewing.
The exhibition runs through January 18, 2025. You can view it in person at the Historic Cane Hill Art Gallery, open Thursdays-Saturdays 10AM-2PM or by appointment. The gallery will be closed the weeks of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
